There are two basic types of Wi-Fi communication systems for the home: mesh networks and access points. At Ranger American Home Security, we provide wireless access solutions for customers in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Arlington, Frisco, and other DFW cities. Mesh networks consist of wireless Wi-Fi signal nodes, and they work together to cover all areas of your home with Wi-Fi. This type of network helps minimize Wi-Fi dead zones by relaying signals between the nodes. However, the problem with extending your Wi-Fi coverage with mesh networks is that you lose speed. This is due to data hopping between the nodes in the network as data travels between your device, the nodes, and the main Wi-Fi station.
Wireless access points are wired to a router through an Ethernet cable. They create a wireless local area network, transmitting and receiving wireless signals in a specific area. Access points are great if you have a larger home, if your building is built from materials that can interfere with Wi-Fi signals, or if you need to connect multiple smart devices. Access points offer more bandwidth and a stronger Wi-Fi network.
Ranger American Home Security provides the residential customers of Dallas-Fort Worth with wireless access points of the highest quality. We provide devices patented by industry leaders like Guardian, Ring, Interlogix, Qolsys, and Alarm.com which ensure quality and trust.
The router acts as a hub that sets up a local area network and manages all of the devices and communication in it. An access point is a sub-device within the local area network that provides another location for devices to connect from and enables more devices to be on the network.
Wireless routers can function as access points, but not all access points can work as routers. While routers manage local area networks by communicating with outside network systems to establish a point of connectivity and ensure security, access points only provide access to the router’s established network.
A range extender repeats the wireless signal from your router to expand its reach by creating a second network, while an access point relies on a hardwired connection to your network rather than simply repeating the existing network.
